Description of Course:
English Language Arts 30-1 has a strong focus on literature such as short stories, essays, poetry, visuals, film, plays (Shakespeare and a modern play), and novel studies (fiction and non-fiction). Literature will be examined through the use of themes, allowing students to make connections between literature and the world in which we live.
Integral to the course is the notion of writing and discussion. Through writing - both personal and critical - students are able to develop thinking, both creatively and analytically. By responding to what we study, we are able to demonstrate our learning. Students will create a variety of personal and critical responses to print and non-print texts by using a variety of forms: prose (factual and fictional, informative and persuasive), poetry, script and multimedia presentation.
Many materials have been acquired through the years from Google searches. If your material is here, please let me know so that I can give you credit; if there is a concern, I can remove it.
Sincere thanks to Carol Mayne, Penny Kittle, Jim Burke, and Kelly Gallagher - plus many other ELA 30-1 Alberta teachers and Secondary Teachers across Canada and the US - for inspiring and providing constantly awesome PD and materials.
